Father Anthony "Tony" Gurnell


Fr. Tony, a resident of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Rectory,
passed at 7:20 am,  July 5, 2007 of cancer.


Father Tony was a sweet, gentle person, born in Ireland,
his last days were greatly eased by Irish music and pictures.


Funeral which will be on Thursday July 12 at 11:00 am at St. Philomenes.
Rosary will be at 7pm on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at St. Philomenes.
Memorial Mass, July 19, 2007, 11:00 am in Cayucos (Bishop Garcia, celebrant)

GURNELL, Rev. Anthony
Pastor Emeritus of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Placerville, died peacefully in the morning on July 5 at Presentation Rectory in Sacramento, where he had resided for the past few months. Father Gurnell was born June 11, 1929, in County Cork, Ireland. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Sacramento on June 14, 1964. Father Gurnell served faithfully in numerous parishes throughout the diocese. He was the son of the late Lena and Leslie Gurnell of Montenotte Park, Cork, Ireland. He will be sadly missed by his sister Mida, niece Geraldine, nephews John, Declan and Fergus, his grandnieces, grandnephews and his many friends. A Vigil Service will be held Wednesday, July 11, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Philomene Catholic Church, Sacramento. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philomene Catholic Church, Sacramento.

GURNELL: REV FR ANTHONY, late of St Joseph's Drive, Montenotte Park, Cork, peacefully, on July 5, 2007, in Sacramento, California, beloved son of the late Lena and Leslie, brother of Mida and brother-in-law of the late of Gerald Aherne. Sadly missed by his sister, niece Geraldine (Prendeville), nephews John, Declan and Fergus, grandnieces, grand- nephews and all his friends. Funeral will take place in California. May he rest in peace
