Hugh unexpectedly passed away at his home on September 24, 2007, at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anne, daughters Karen Vick (C.V.) and Susan Rokoss (Wolf), sons John, Terry (Suzanne) and Matt (Gina), and his loving grandchildren Sophia, Connor, Luke, Amanda and Douglas. Hugh was born and raised in Detroit, Mich., spending his summers at Higgins Lake. He attended John Carroll University, where he earned a Bachelor's in Business and later completed his Master's. After college he entered the U.S. Army, becoming a 1st Lt. and traveling the world, from Thule, Greenland to the Marshall Islands, setting up weapon testing sites. Later, he served as a 1st Lt. in the Michigan National Guard. After stints at G.M. and Clark Equipment, Hugh started his own businesses buying and selling used forklifts all along the West Coast. For the last nine years, he worked for Forklift Sales of Sacramento. "Hugh, the forklift guy" did what he loved for over 41 years. His warmth, friendship and humor will be greatly missed by his close friends and business associates throughout the state. Hugh met Anne during Spring Break in Florida and they married in 1960. After living in Virginia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, Hugh and Anne settled in Sacramento to raise their family. Hugh enjoyed traveling, family vacations in Tahoe, and just spending time with his grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at Presentation Church, 3100 Norris Ave., on Friday, September 28, at 12:00 PM. A reception will be held at the church hall following the service.
