Question of the Week

"Who are our neighbors
and
how do we show them our love?"

Father Andrew's Let's Talk "Heart to Heart"

Let's Talk: "Heart to Heart"

Getting along, I assume with many of us in this new ministry called "The Question of The Week", from time to time I have experienced the Grace of God, making us stronger.

The question derived from the Gospel of the last Sunday was based on the encounter of Jesus with the blind man of Jericho. Jesus responded to the crying out of the blind man by asking him to come to Him and set up straight his request. Jesus wanted the blind man to clearly state what he expected from Him. So, Jesus asked him: "What do you want me to do for you?" On this question, encouraging us to state our needs and to pronounce our commitment of trust in Jesus, we wove our question of last week, "What do we want Jesus to do for you?

First of all I found quiet time for my own prayer on Sunday afternoon, reread the Gospel and asked myself what I'd like Jesus to do for me. Focusing on my needs and choosing only one, although I could ask for more than one, I asked for the ability to guide, through the right path, those brothers and sisters whom God set up in my life especially in my priestly ministry. I knew that this request came to me through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, so I prayed to our Savior that He would grant me this talent. Many times this week I felt encouragement and enlightenment to find good resolutions in a task of guidance. Also, understanding the failures of the past came to me.

This last week during a few of our meetings we started our talk with the question of the week as our prayer. We were guided to the better understanding of our needs and to the total commitment in faith. Two weeks ago the helpful question of the week was, "How can we serve others seeing Jesus in one another?", it was really helpful for me during our meetings or confession to imagine the face of Jesus on the faces of those with whom I was working. The Holy Spirit has been helpful to bring good changes in our attitudes.

How the ministry of "The Question of the Week" helps our families in a time of prayer or of working together to renew our faith and make better our relationships?.

God Bless, Fr. Andrew

All Saints….All Souls….All Celebrating….

November is a Catholic-Christian month of remembrance. We begin this month by remembering ALL of the Saints of God, the canonized and the uncanonized witnesses to faithfulness, fervency, and fidelity, to following Jesus the Christ as the Lord of Creation and the Savior of the World. During November, we also especially remember the holy souls of the faithful departed. Praying for their salvation and memorializing them at our altars in the Masses for All Souls that we celebrate. As the Liturgical Year draws to a close, we recall the 'End times', the Second Coming of Christ and the Last Judgment, "the Parousia" - that leads to God's Kingdom of Eternal Life. Jesus Christ is the supreme sovereign of the Eternal Kingdom, so fittingly in coming weeks we conclude the 2006 Church Year with the celebration of Christ the King. Meanwhile, as Americans we also express our national gratitude during November in the blessings and bounty of Thanksgiving. All Saints - All Souls - the Solemnity of Christ the King - Thanksgiving, 4 feasts that consecrate and commemorate this month of November as a month of authentic remembrance and celebration. I have a soft spot in my heart for November, as it is the month I was born. Maybe that's why I love turkey and the trimmings, as much as I do. Happy November !!!!, and All the Remembrances and Celebrations it brings….

Fr. Troy

California Bishops Urge YES Vote on Prop. 85!!! - Did you know that in California a teenage girl can obtain an abortion without her parents' knowledge and that schools can release students in grades 7-12 for this and other confidential medical procedures without notifying her parents? Prop 85 on the Nov. 7th ballot would mandate that, except for a medical emergency, no abortion could be performed on a minor unless a parent or guardian is notified at least 48 hours before the procedure, giving parents the information we need to protect our children. Parents must consent to an aspirin, or sign permission slips for fieldtrips, so why shouldn't parents also know when our daughter undergoes an abortion? YES on Prop 85.

Novena for our National Elections – On Monday, October 30, 2006 a Novena of Prayer will begin for out National Elections.
Prayer for our National Elections 2006
The intentions for this Prayer Campaign are as follows:
  • That believers will be active citizens, will register to vote, and will cast their votes in the 2006 Elections.
  • That voters will base their choices on principle rather than on mere party loyalty or self-interest, keeping in mind that the first duty of government is the protection of human life.
  • That as a result of this year’s elections, our nation may come closer to embracing a Culture of Life, in which the unborn and all the vulnerable are protected.
A Prayer for our National Elections

O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord, Not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.

We thank you for the privilege Of being able to organize ourselves politically And of knowing that political loyalty Does not have to mean disloyalty to you.

We thank you for your law, Which our Founding Fathers acknowledged And recognized as higher than any human law.

We thank you for the opportunity that this election year puts before us, To exercise our solemn duty not only to vote, But to influence countless others to vote, And to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened. Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation, Their response to you requires that they be politically active.

Awaken your people to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the world But rather a community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer Are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth; That the same eyes that read your Word Are the eyes that read the names on the ballot, And that they do not cease to be Christians When they enter the voting booth.

Awaken your people to a commitment to justice To the sanctity of marriage and the family, To the dignity of each individual human life, And to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin, And not one moment later.

Lord, we rejoice today That we are citizens of your kingdom.

May that make us all the more committed To being faithful citizens on earth.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
